Psalm 120

This sermon was preached in a series called Songs of Ascent which went through Psalms 120-134. I was inspired to do this series by Eugene Peterson’s A Long Obedience in the Same Direction.

Sermon text: Psalm 120

Sermon outline

  • We sojourn in a world of lies.
  • We long for a world of shalom.
  • Main idea: Repentance is the first step in the journey from lies to shalom.

Galatians: Sermon 9

Sermon text: Galatians 6:1-18

Sermon outline

Main idea: Christ’s church should display Christ’s grace.

  • Biblical accountability displays God’s grace (6:1-5).
  • Radical generosity displays God’s grace (6:6-10).
  • Christ’s crucifixion displays God’s grace (6:11-17).
  • May your spirit display God’s grace (6:18).

Galatians: Sermon 8

Sermon text: Galatians 5:2-26

Sermon outline

  • Circumcision of the flesh is a hopeless endeavor (5:2-6).
  • Circumcision of the flesh removes the cross’s purpose (5:7-12).
  • Freedom in the Spirit should serve love not sin (5:13-15).
  • Circumcision of the flesh represents trusting sinful flesh (5:16-21).
  • Christians should live and be led by the Spirit (5:22-26).

Galatians: Sermon 7

Sermon text: Galatians 4:12-5:1

Sermon outline

Main idea: God’s children aren’t set free by Christ so that they can serve their old masters but so they can find true freedom with their new master.

  • We can eagerly embrace the preaching of freedom one day only to abandon it the next.
  • We can keep the works of the law while missing the story of the law.
  • We must stand firm in the freeing freedom of Christ and reject a yoke of slavery.

Unfortunately, the sermon did not record properly, so the sermon is not available online.

Galatians: Sermon 6

Sermon text: Galatians 4:1-11

Sermon outline

Main idea: If we have been redeemed and adopted by God, we ought to live like free children rather than slaves.

  • Everyone needs redemption because everyone is a slave (4:1-3).
  • Our redemption is planned, accomplished, and applied by God (4:4-6).
  • The redeemed are adopted as God’s rightful heirs (4:7).
  • If we reject the freedom offered by God, we remain slaves (4:8-11).

Unfortunately, this sermon failed to be recorded properly and is unavailable online. The title was “Adoption by the Triune God.”
